Shiroyama Viewpoint (Ogimachi Castle Observation Deck)β β β β β Hilma's pick
Fifteen minutes' walk up a gentle forest trail from Wada House gives you the valley's defining view β the whole scatter of gassho roofs compressed into one pattern, the Shogawa bending through it, mountains closing in on every side. Go early for the fog, or stay until the light goes soft. The shuttle bus runs for 300 yen if your knees prefer not to climb.

Cafe Satoβ β β β Hilma's pick
Two minutes from the bus terminal, run by someone who grows their own vegetables and serves what the valley produces. Wild mountain vegetables in season, local rice, and the kind of lunch that makes you want to cancel your bus and stay another night.

Myozen-ji Templeβ β β β Hilma's pick
A gassho-style temple at the quiet edge of the village, with a small history museum and a garden that looks up at the mountains the carpenters drew their timber from. Fewer tourists than the main houses, and the most contemplative spot in Ogimachi.
