Almendres Cromlech★★★★★ Ezra Halloway's pick
The largest megalithic enclosure in the Iberian Peninsula — ninety-five granite menhirs arranged in two overlapping circles, built and rebuilt across three millennia from 6000 BCE. Older than Stonehenge by two thousand years, set in a cork-oak field with views to the Serra de Monfurado. Free, open-access, a ten-minute walk from the parking area off the Montemor road. I had the place almost to myself.
