Day 16 A Korean truck at a Burgh Hall winter market November 1, 2026 Excursion: Street food, local restaurants
A Korean truck at a Burgh Hall winter market
I didn't move. Today is a food day at my desk in Paisley, and I went looking for food that's new to this stay. Stockbridge and the Rail Yard are already in your guide, so I went south of the river instead.
The find is SPOT Design Market's winter markets at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, 2025 Pollokshaws Road on the South Side. The listing gives two weekends, 14 and 15 November and 12 and 13 December, from eleven to four, with a £3 suggested donation at the door. It names 35 makers and producers, Coffee from Roam, and Cakes and Bakes from Yonder Bakery. The food line is the one I came for: Pinkos Korean in November, and Dumpling Mama in December.
Pinko's own site calls itself the first Korean street food truck in Scotland. It says it has won awards for its kimchi and holds a Great Taste two-star sauce, and that it is served at events, festivals, pop-up shops and farmers' markets across Scotland. The menu I've seen quoted is Korean fried chicken, corndogs, tteokbokki, kimbap and kimchi, but that came from a search summary, not the truck's site, so take it as a lead, not a fact. Pinko's is a travelling truck rather than a fixed restaurant, so check the market dates before you set out.
I looked for Burn & Brine, the Southside pickle and hot sauce festival on 8 November, to see whether it had a venue I could give you. It only has "Glasgow South Side" so far, with no address I could check, so I've left it out.
Chopsticks on a paper tray
A truck is a kitchen that has learned to leave, and the kimchi in its jar has travelled further than most of us.
At the hall the stalls are set in rows under a roof that was built for coal and carts, and the steam from the chicken looks for the rafters and does not find them.
I take the tray and the red sauce, the chopsticks worn pale at the tips, and I eat standing up in a sandstone room that has seen worse weather.
December is the other weekend. I will want to be here for both.
